Statistics: Alexis Ohanian Invested $1.38M on Shark Tank

Alexis Ohanian did not spend very long on Shark Tank. He came in as a guest Shark during Season 17 and only appeared in two episodes. But that was enough time for him to make five deals. Alchemize Fightwear and RetrievAir came first, and then he returned for Left Field, Screen Skinz and Street FC.

And there was quite a bit of money involved for only five businesses. Alexis’s part of those agreements comes to $1,376,000, or about $1.38 million. RetrievAir alone gave him $776,000 of that amount. That was a deal Alexis made without another Shark beside him.

Street FC was Alexis’s other deal without another Shark. He agreed to put up the complete $250,000 himself. The other three deals had more than one Shark putting up the money. Alexis was with Lori Greiner and Kendra Scott on Alchemize Fightwear, Kendra on Left Field, and Kevin O’Leary on Screen Skinz. We don’t know a different cash split for those deals, so Alexis gets an equal share of each one. That is what brings his five Shark Tank agreements to $1.376 million.

But $1.376 million is still the amount from the deals Alexis agreed to on Shark Tank. There is more that happens once filming is over, and sometimes an agreement does not make it through. So, the amount Alexis actually invested after the show is not quite as simple. We have good evidence that Alexis actually became an investor in some of these businesses. With others, what happened after filming is not quite as clear.

How Much Did Alexis Ohanian Invest on Shark Tank?

Alexis Ohanian’s five Shark Tank agreements come to $1,376,000 on his side. RetrievAir was by far the biggest one at $776,000, and Street FC added another $250,000. Those were the two deals Alexis made alone. The other $350,000 comes from his share of three deals with other Sharks.

CompanyAccepted Shark Tank DealAlexis’s Amount
Alchemize Fightwear$300,000 for 15%$100,000*
RetrievAir$776,000 for 15%$776,000
Left Field$200,000 for 8% + 4% advisory shares$100,000*
Screen Skinz$300,000 for 15% + $1 royalty until $900,000$150,000*
Street FC$250,000 for 3% + 2% advisory shares$250,000
Total$1,376,000

Screen Skinz had something else in the deal too. Alexis and Kevin O’Leary would get $1 from every unit sold until they received $900,000. That doesn’t mean they were investing another $900,000 though. Alexis’s share of the $300,000 cash investment is still counted as $150,000.

Alexis Ohanian Invested $100,000 in Alchemize Fightwear

Maya Nazareth knew what it was like to wear fightwear that was not really made for women. She built Alchemize Fightwear specifically for women in combat sports, with the clothing designed around their bodies instead. By the time she came to Shark Tank, Maya was asking for $250,000 for 5% of the company. Alexis was already putting money into women’s sports outside Shark Tank. And this time, two other Sharks wanted Alchemize too. Lori Greiner and Kendra Scott joined Alexis, and Maya accepted $300,000 for 15% from the three of them. We count Alexis’s part at $100,000 because a different split between the Sharks was not announced.

Alchemize kept all three Sharks around after the show too. Later on, Alexis, Lori and Kendra were all listed as investors in Alchemize. They just don’t tell us how the $300,000 was split between the three. So, we know Alexis was an investor, but we don’t know if he actually put in exactly $100,000.

Alexis Ohanian Invested $776,000 in RetrievAir

RetrievAir was a much bigger deal for Alexis. Benton Miller and Mark Williams came in asking for $500,000 for 5% of their pet aviation company. RetrievAir was giving pet owners another way to travel with their animals. Instead of putting the pet in the cargo hold, they could have them in the cabin with them. Alexis liked the business and offered $776,000 for 15%.

There was a reason he landed on $776,000. Alexis had already named his venture firm Seven Seven Six, or 776. And he was willing to put up that complete amount without bringing another Shark into the deal. Benton and Mark accepted his offer.

And this deal actually went through after Shark Tank. RetrievAir later confirmed that Alexis and Seven Seven Six had invested in the company. RetrievAir kept operating its pet-friendly flights after that too. So, we know Alexis really did become an investor in the business.

Alexis Ohanian Invested $100,000 in Left Field

Left Field had around 5,000 users when Samantha Martin and Kate Sieler filmed Shark Tank. Their dating app was using things like mutual connections, hometowns, neighborhoods and favorite places to help people find someone. They were also using AI in the matching. Samantha and Kate wanted $200,000 for 5% of the company.

The deal ended up changing from that original ask. Alexis and Kendra Scott agreed to put in $200,000 for 8%, and they would get another 4% in advisory shares. Since we don’t have a different split for the $200,000, Alexis gets $100,000 in our count. Kendra gets the other half.

And Left Field kept both investors after Shark Tank. Alexis made his investment through Seven Seven Six, while Kendra invested on her own. The founders continued working on the dating app and were later getting ready to raise more money. So, this was another deal that made it past the show.

Alexis Ohanian Invested $150,000 in Screen Skinz

Screen Skinz made screen protectors a little more personal. The company could put an image or design on the protector that showed when the phone screen was off, but it would basically disappear when you were using the phone. The founders had also patented the technology behind it. They came to Shark Tank asking for $300,000 for 7.5%.

Alexis ended up going into this one with Kevin O’Leary. Together, they offered $300,000 for 15%, but there was another part to their deal. Alexis and Kevin would also get $1 from every unit sold until they received $900,000. The founders accepted their offer.

We don’t know that Alexis and Kevin divided the $300,000 exactly in half. But with no different split announced, we count $150,000 on Alexis’s side. Screen Skinz later continued talking about Alexis and Kevin as investors in the company. It also went on to announce a partnership with Belkin after Shark Tank.

Alexis Ohanian Invested $250,000 in Street FC

Street FC had thousands of soccer players using its games by the time Kyle Martino came to Shark Tank. Kyle had been a professional soccer player himself, and now he was trying to make pickup soccer easier to find and organize. The company was already running games in different cities. Kyle wanted $250,000 for 2.5% of Street FC.

Alexis was interested, but he wanted more of Street FC than Kyle was offering. His first offer was $250,000 for 5%. They kept going back and forth until Kyle agreed to $250,000 for 3%, with another 2% in advisory shares. And because Alexis did this deal alone, the complete $250,000 counts for him.

Alexis and Kyle had met before Shark Tank too. They both went to the University of Virginia, and their paths had crossed again through sports and technology. But investing was never something they had talked about. That changed with Street FC, and Kyle continued talking about Alexis as an investor after the show.

What Happened to Alexis Ohanian’s Shark Tank Companies?

There has already been some movement with Alexis’s five companies. Screen Skinz went on to announce a partnership with Belkin. Left Field kept developing its dating app and was getting ready to raise more money. RetrievAir continued with its pet-friendly flights.

Alchemize Fightwear kept going after Shark Tank too. Maya continued building the business for women in combat sports. Street FC was still running its pickup soccer games as well. So, all five of Alexis’s companies were still in business.

But they are still private businesses, and we don’t have an exit to look at yet. We don’t know what Alexis’s ownership in each company looks like today either. So, even though the companies have continued after Shark Tank, there isn’t enough information to say how much money Alexis has made from them.

Final Words

Alexis only appeared in two Shark Tank episodes, and he still managed to make five deals. His part of those agreements came to $1.376 million. RetrievAir took $776,000 of that by itself, and Street FC added another $250,000. The rest came from his shared deals with Alchemize Fightwear, Left Field and Screen Skinz.

And all five businesses were still going after Shark Tank. We also know Alexis really did become an investor in several of them, although the exact amount he ultimately put into every company is not always public. That makes $1.376 million the number we can use for his Shark Tank agreements. How much those five investments eventually make for Alexis is something we still have to wait to find out.
