She made a deal with Mark and Gwyneth for $250,000 in exchange for 7% equity and 3% advisory shares, plus a $7 royalty per unit sold until the investment is repaid. This new deal valued her company at approximately $3.57 million. After the show aired, Kudos saw a big increase in website traffic, sales, and social media exposure. With an estimated 10% yearly growth rate (typical business growth), the current net worth of Kudos in 2025 is about $4.73 million.

As per usual any product that features on the show gets a mega boost in sales and a lot of traction. That’s exactly what happened for Kudos. Coming from a family of engineers, she also went to MIT to get her degree in mechanical engineering. After that, she went to Harvard Business School for an MBA. She landed her dream job at Procter and Gamble as a Manufacturing engineer. That’s when she noticed how much plastic goes into sanitary pads and diapers.

She then left her job and moved to India, where she opened her first company, which made biodegradable sanitary pads out of waste banana tree fiber. That company has now become a leading eco-friendly brand in India. She then moved back to America, and as she entered her 30s, all of her friends were having children. That’s when she knew that this had to change.

Lori actually asked her does she had a child of her own. She was a mother to a 12-week-old when she arrived at the shark tank. Funnily enough, she got the call to appear on the show while she was in the labor room.

Amrita Saigal came into the shark tank asking for $250,000 for 5% equity in her company, Kudos. She came in wearing a plastic bag to emphasize the point that children’s diapers are made of plastic, and they wear them for 2 to 3 years. The plastic used in diapers is not breathable; hence, it is harmful to babies. Diapers are also one of the largest consumer products that end up in landfills.

That’s why she came up with Kudos. Kudos diapers are made out of 10% cotton, and no plastics are used, making them breathable and safe for babies. Cotton is also one of the top recommended materials for rash and eczema by doctors.

She mentioned that her customers appreciate that it is sustainable, natural, and chlorine-free. A team of MIT engineers designed the award-winning, patent-pending double dry technology, using two absorption layers to avoid leakages.

She provided samples to sharks and told them that her customers love how soft the diapers are and the sharks can also touch and feel the softness.

Kevin asked about her sales. She told the sharks that it’s only been a year since the launch of the company, and in that one year, the sales have been $850,000. Kevin asked about the business model. Amrita told the sharks that she has been selling directly to the consumers; her model is 100% online.

Gwyneth asked about any investors being involved. She told them that she had raised $3.2 million through venture funding. Kevin asked what evaluation was the funding done. Amrita said that the latest evaluation was $12.5 million.

Kevin assumed and asked if she wasn’t profitable at that time. She confirmed his suspicions and said yes, we are not profitable right now. Kevin further asked about her aggregate losses since the beginning, and she told them it had been $1.5 million. However, she continued by saying that according to the projections for next year, they will be profitable in the upcoming year. She also told them that she is expected to have $4.5 million worth of sales.

Gwyneth asked about the diaper pricing. Amrita told her that the one-time purchase pack is worth $88 or join the subscription for $78 per month. Each box sold contains one month’s supply of diapers.

Barbara asked how Kudos’s market price compares to the general market. Amrita told her that her product is on par with theirs in the eco-friendly space. Barbara continued the line of questioning by asking if the eco-friendly diapers category is twice as expensive. She told them that it’s not twice as much. It’s somewhere from 20% to 50%.

Gwyneth asked about the margins of her diapers. Amrita told her that landing the diapers cost her $39. Mark remarked that this margin is very thin, and Amrita countered that it is very typical in the diaper industry. Mark further asked how much is being spent on marketing. Amrita told him that they had spent less than $100,000 in marketing in the first year, and their main advertising was through word of mouth. She also told them that her blended cost of acquisition is $23.

Did Mark ask her about her future plans? Amrita excitedly told him that she thinks baby diapers are just the beginning, and they had already launched the baby wipes and were planning to expand to the swim pants and training pants. Not only that, she also wanted to venture into adult diapers.

Kevin was concerned that once she captures 4% to 5% of the market, the big brands will jump in and try to mimic her eco-friendly product. Mark remarked that if she had a 4% to 5% share of the market after that, she wouldn’t care. Amrita also jumped in to share the market insights that 0.01% of the market share is worth $7 million.

While Gwyneth and Kevin argued on whether or not the big brands could mimic her product, Mark asked what was she looking for in a shark. Amrita told him that she needed to reach more consumers and make it into a household name.

She already knows from customer data and feedback that the parents love this product. She also wants to expand into online retailers. She also pointed out that Goop, which is Gwyneth Paltrow’s brand, has an audience that is very aligned with the messaging of the brand.

Kevin raised his concerns about the fact that the diaper industry is ruled by behemoth brands, and she has worked in one of them. Mark asked Gwyneth does she liked the product, and Gwyneth said that she loved the product and it was definitely going to fill the white space in the market.

Gwyneth and Mark both believed that the product definitely filled an untapped space and had great prospects. Lori found the product to be very soft and not as bulky as the other products in the market.
